WordPress team started to work on the first maintenance version of WordPress 2.8. which is 2.8.1. This version will fix many bugs that turned up in 2.8. If you want to test this beta version, you can download it, and check the bugs fixed so far. Some of the known issues that are fixed in beta 1 are:
_Certain themes call “get_categories()” in such a way that it would fail in 2.8. However 2.8.1 works around this issue so these themes won’t have to change.
_Some people were running out of memory when loading the dashboard, resulting in an incomplete page. Now Dashboard memory usage is reduced.
_They added extra security to protect you from plugins that don’t do explicit permission checks.
_The automatic upgrade no longer deletes files when cleaning up from a failed upgrade.
_A problem where the rich text editor wasn’t being loaded due to compression bugs has been fixed.
