Optimize the Title Tag of your Blog

The Title tags are the words that you can see at the top of your internet browser when you visit a Blog. They basically tell the search engines what the page is about. For example, take a look at the top band of this browser. You will see “Wp Themes Planet | WordPress Themes and Blogging Tips”. This is the title of my Blog. Title tags work much like the title of a book. For example if you need a new book about “Search Engine Optimization”, you will go into a library and look for a book titled “Search Engine Optimization” or something similar, and you will take or buy that book. However, there were other books in that library, which probably had more information on “Search Engine Optimization” than the book you bought. But, unfortunately their titles were not so relevant, and thus you decided to buy that other book.

So, what I’m trying to say is that Search engines work pretty much the same. They look at the title of your Blog and decide what it is about. There is no doubt among the SEOs regarding the importance of Title tags in Search Engine Optimization. So, one of the steps to improve a Blog’s rank is by optimizing the Title tags. When calculating your web page’s relevance to a search, most search engines consider the content of the title tag as one of the parameters and display that content in search engine results pages (SERP). Title tag therefore needs to be carefully constructed in such a way that it increases your website’s position in the SERP, and it is attractive enough to encourage a surfer to click on your link.

Some very important points to take into consideration are:

• Using “your keywords” in the Title tag: Including the keywords in the Title tag will increase the relevance of your Blog. When I say “your keywords” I mean the keywords you want your Blog to rank for.
• Writing different Title tags for every page in your Blog. The Title tag of a web page must be relevant for that specific page. My WordPress Theme Patagonia makes this step easy, by using a different title for each page.
• Keeping the Title tag short, simple and readable: Search engines don’t like long Title tags. Google likes short Title tags, because they display Title tags in the search engine result, to make them informative.
• Never leave a Title tag empty and don’t use irrelevant words on it.
• It is not recommended to include your company name in the Title tag unless you think it will attract more users. Instead of your company name, it is recommended to use a suitable keyword.

The Title tag helps the search engines decide the topic of your Blog when being spidered by the search Bot. When a search for keywords is conducted, the Title tag is given heavy relevance by all search engine algorithms. Also remember, each page in your Blog is unique and thus needs a unique Title tag. Yahoo and Bing are very influenced by the Title tag of your Blog.
