YouTube has a new design. However, it looks like they are still beta testing it and some people are not able to see the new design yet. As far as I know, only those who browse YouTube with Chrome can notice the new layout. Some surfers on Firefox can activate it, though . I tried to browse YouTube with Internet Explorer, and it was impossible to get their new layout.

If you are using Firefox and can’t see the new version of YouTube, you can do this to activate it.

Open YouTube.com in your Firefox browser, and paste this line into the address bar:

javascript: document.cookie="VISITOR_INFO1_LIVE=ST1Ti53r4fU";document.location.href='http://youtube.com/';

Reload and you are done. You will see a welcome message. Here are some other screenshots.

Youtube will release this Layout for everyone soon. However, I think it’s important for bloggers and webmasters with a strong presence on YouTube to get an idea of the new layout before it goes public. Enjoy.

Even if you use Akismet or TypePad AntiSpam Plugin for WordPress, there can be a small amount of spam comments that bypass the WP plugins. Those very good Antispam plugins block more than 95% of bad junk messages. But what can be do with the rest?

In general, comment spammers write messages to escape your attention. Although they use smart spam bots and BlackHat software like XRumer or ScrapeBox, they want you to believe they are real bloggers, real people, writing real comments. They want you yo approve the comment and publish it on your site. They simply lie in order to convince you to give them the benefit of the doubt.

These Web spammers want to advertise on your blog for free and they’re not even asking your permission first. Right now someone is offering to sell links from your blog to anyone willing to pay a few dollars (or a few cents). If your blog is well known, it may even be listed by name, with backlinks for sale at a set price.

Web spammers are selling links from your blog to their clients. They do this to game the search engines and trick your readers into visiting dubious web sites. Their clients are sometimes seemingly harmless, but are often peddling fake pills, adult, scams and malware.

Identify False Positive Spam Comments you can first check for links to spammy URLs in the comment url box. Sometimes I’ll see a thoughtful comment clearly written in direct response to the post it’s commenting on, under a real person’s name, and still mark it as spam because they link to a site whose legitimacy is questionable. Another great method I use and that never ever fails is lookup the exact comment or one of it’s sentences in google. Let’s take this sample spam comment:

and paste it exactly in google. Make sure you write it between Quotes (“sample comment”) which tells Google to look for the query in that exact order. If you get any results on the exact comment, it’s most likely comment spam. Now check this:

We received more than 330,000 results. We are talking about 330,000 clones of the same spam comment posted in blogs.

Another consideration is that old posts tend to attract a lot of spam. Real people generally recognize that if a post is a year or so old, the conversation there is pretty much over. Spambots do not realize that. It still sometimes happens that someone comments on an ancient post, but the age of the post is a big red flag.

If you can Identify False Positive Spam Comments, then you can mark them as spam and they will not comment again.

Google released its Google +1 (“a.k.a plus one”) button to compete with Twitter’s Tweet button and Facebook’s Like button. First, if you have a Google account, you can join the +1 button experiment to start voting and rating sites. Then you can incorporate the +1 button into your Blog to let users and visitors vote for your site.

You can join this experiment by clicking here. Make sure you’re signed into your Google Account. Click ‘Join this experiment’. Search for something you love on Google.com. Click the new +1 button, and make your mark on the web.

Please note, this experiment is browser-specific. From within each browser that you want to +1 from, you will need to repeat steps 1-2. Also, it may take a while before you see the button in search results, and it may occasionally disappear as we make improvements. Your feedback will help us make it better!

To add the +1 button into your blog, just go here and follow the steps. Then paste the code into your blog. If you are not used with code, just add a text widget in WordPress (Appearance -> Widgets) and paste the code there. If you are more used to editing your source code, you can paste the code at the bottom of each article, so people can vote easier for every new article you write.

The +1 button let people who love your content, recommend it on Google search. Enjoy!

When you embed YouTube videos on your blog, you are helping to show the variety of great content on YouTube. This practice often adds context to what you’re watching. With the recent launch of “As Seen On” YouTube pages, we’re connecting those conversations around the web to deepen the connection to the YouTube videos you’re watching.

There is now a place on YouTube to find videos mentioned on your favorite blogs & sites. It provides a way to find new and interesting content while helping you dive deeper into the conversation around a video.

The “As Seen On” links on the video pages will direct users to these pages to surface more content and commentary. As a blog or site owner, this is another way all that hard work you put into building your readership can pay off and generate even more traffic for your site. You might even get your site exposed to a whole new audience via people who encounter it for the first time on YouTube, so keep up the great work!

So, make sure you keep embedding YouTube videos on your blog and your feed might eventually get tracked by YouTube.

It has been announced that Microsoft Corporation had acquired Skype Communications today, May 10th 2011. Microsoft paid US$8.5 billion for Skype. The company has been incorporated as a division of Microsoft, called “Microsoft Skype Division”. Microsoft will acquire all of the company’s technologies, including Skype, with the purchase.

Skype was founded in 2003 by Swedish entrepreneur Niklas Zennström and Dane Janus Friis, and was initially released as a simple computer-to-computer, or computer-to-telephone program.

In a deal that took about a month from offer to signing, the software company outbid competitors Google and Facebook, which sources said offered to partner or buy Skype for $3 billion to $4 billion. They planned to use the provider of Internet telephone services to keep users glued to their online communities.

Microsoft’s interest in the popular service highlights a need to gain new customers for its Windows and Office software. Skype has 145 million users worldwide on average each month and has gained favor among small business users.

Microsoft Stocks went up from 25.40 to 25.70 intraday, after the purchase was announced, and further gains are expected for the rest of the week.

A few days ago, Google added a new feature to the Search Engine, designed to give users an instant preview screenshot of their search result without having to leave the page. This great tool allows users to view a thumbnail of websites without clicking on the link. Google wants to reduce more time to the search process, either by improving the engine to be faster or minimizing errors from the user.

According to Google, they found that people who use Instant Previews are about 5% more likely to be satisfied with the results they click. The previews provide new ways to evaluate search results, making you more likely to find what you’re looking for on the pages you visit.

Raj Krishnan, Google product manager said: “We’re trying to avoid cases in which you click on a result and almost instantly discover that it is not what you were looking for and you have to go back and click a different result”, adding that frustrated search process is “a bad experience.”

Users of Google can now see how a little window with the web image will open when you want to pass over a search result , providing an idea of whether the site is appropiate or not.

This new feature will be most beneficial to people on slower networks, who need a greater degree of precision in their searches, hopefully cutting down on search time.

WordPress.com announced the launch of FoodPress, the first project for aggregating content written by its users. Automattic, the company behind WordPress.com and WordPress.org among other projects, has partnered with Federated Media to handle the publishing and advertising opportunities for FoodPress.

To get featured on the site, they recommend that bloggers use food-related tags like food, recipes, baking or drinks, so that their posts are easier to find for the site’s editor. So if you’re a food blogger and writer, be sure to use related tags on your posts. The bloggers currently post “thousands of mouth-watering recipes and food stories every day.”

Chances are that this won’t remain WordPress.com’s only attempt at establishing destination sites for different verticals. It’s easy to imagine similar sites that aggregate the best travel blogs on WordPress.com, for example. Assuming FoodPress is a success and an overall traffic driver, they expect that other niche content aggregators or “presses” will be launched later.

If FoodPress becomes popular, it could not only bring more traffic to WordPress.com blogs, but also provide some SEO advantage to the sites that are listed there. It will also incentivate their bloggers to keep updating their blogs with fresh content.
