WordPress 3.0 final release “Thelonious”

WordPress 3.0 has been released with the name “Thelonious”. This is the thirteenth major release of WordPress and the culmination of half a year of work by 218 contributors, is now available for download (or upgrade within your dashboard).

New features in this WordPress release include a new default theme called “Twenty Ten”. Let me add that it really looks like “Patagonia” Theme, so I guess less people are going to use my theme, time to “adapt and change” I guess. But in the other hand I can feel proud to work as inspiration to whoever designed Twenty Ten.

Theme developers have new APIs that allow them to easily implement custom backgrounds, headers, shortlinks, menus (no more file editing), post types, and taxonomies. Developers and network admins will appreciate the long-awaited merge of MU and WordPress, creating the new multi-site functionality which makes it possible to run one blog or ten million from the same installation. Also, I really don’t understand why would they merge WpMu into WordPress, since most people are going to use normal WordPress anyways.

I just added the Menu Management feature for compatibility with WordPress 3.0, the next version of WordPress. Menu compatibility has been added to Patagonia, Tandil and Director.

It’s one of the most exciting features in the coming WordPress 3.0. It gives you full control over your site’s navigation menus. Users can easily drag and drop items, to create menus that include any mixture of links to internal pages, external URLs, categories, basically a customized widget. Then you can embed these custom menus as a widget, in the sidebar, footer, etc.

Patagonia and Tandil WordPress Themes have been updated today. A print.css has been added to improve printing. Some people still like to print out web sites, so this feature can be useful to some of your visitors.

You can either install or update Patagonia and Tandil theme automatically from your dashboard. This is recommended if you didn’t change anything in the css or php files manually. Otherwise, make you sure to save your customization before upgrading.

Hello everyone! I just wanted to let you know that Patagonia Theme has been updated, you can download the latest version below.

Changelog includes the following additions among other small improvements: Facebook Support was added. You can add your facebook profile and activate it from the admin panel. It will show up with Twitter and RSS. Another improvement is that options panel URLs were “sanitized” to avoid undesirable characters to display. This is to comply with the latest wordpress version security demands.

If you are upgrading Patagonia and your theme was manually customized, remember to save those changes before upgrading. WordPress will probably release a feature to make theme upgrades easier in a coming future, specially for users who customize themes. You can also update Patagonia theme automatically from your dashboard. This is recommended if you didn’t change anything in the css or php files manually.

Patagonia Theme 1.6.6 Released

Happy New year everyone! I hope you had a great week! 2010 is here and it will be a great year for WordPress and everything involving this amazing Content Management System that is here to stay and to make the web a better place. As you may know, WordPress was first thought as a Blogging platform. However it is now applied to E-commerce sites, business portals, personal sites, video, photography and tube websites, hosting sites with wpmu, just to name a few.

WordPress is no longer known as “just a blogging platform”. The job of theme designers is to style WordPress for everyone and to make Internet sites look great and easy to browse. Amazing Free and Premium WordPress themes will be released in 2010. Version 1.6.6 of Patagonia includes excerpts in the category and tags pages which shows a resume of each post and a link to the full article.

If you are upgrading Patagonia and your theme was manually customized, remember to save those changes before upgrading. WordPress will probably release a feature to make theme upgrades easier in a coming future, specially for users who customize themes. Another great news is that I have partenerd with one of my colleagues to start offering free blog hosting to my theme users, but I will release this via Twitter and RSS first, so make sure to subscribe to the RSS and Twitter. How to set WordPress on a subdirectory

I will explain you an easy way to set WordPress on a subdirectory, even if you have WordPress installed on your root folder. A lot of people and sites want to display a front page as their main site and not their articles or posts. A good example of this, is Matt Cutts. You can see his blog at www.mattcutts.com/blog. Instead of installing his blog at mattcutts.com he decided to put it on mattcutts.com/blog. The easiest way to do this is by creating two pages in WordPress.

First you create a blank page called “Blog” or whatever name you would like to use. (Dashboard -> Pages -> Add New). Then you create another page that will be your front page. I called it Parent Page for this example. Save the changes and you’re done. That is it. You will see a front page in “yourdomain.com” and your blog articles on “yourdomain.com/blog”. You can then customize your front page to fit your needs. For example, the sidebar can be removed to make it a full width page, insert tables, etc.

Patagonia Theme and WordPress MU

Hello everyone. I want to let you know that Patagonia WordPress Theme and Tandil Theme are now fully compatible with WordPress MU. I have discovered that many WordPress themes have some kind of problem when you try to integrate them with WordPress MU. I have had problems with a lot of themes in the past and had to switch themes all the time, because soon or late I discovered some issues in most of them. I have also reviewed many premium themes (paid ones), some of those themes cost between 80 and 150 dollars, and all of them failed to integrate with wordpress MU.

I won’t name them as it’s Unprofessional to do. You can contact me if you need more info or if you need me to review your premium themes. Anyway, many webmasters buy those themes, because the themes are actually sold using excellent marketing tactics that make people buy them. However take care before wasting money on wordpress themes that are not going to fit your basic needs or will fail to integrate with the latest WordPress Versions. And when you ask for support, they don’t give you any at all. Now I am very happy to say that both Themes I designed are fully compatible with WordPress MU and with the latest versions of WordPress. I’m currently working on new themes. I will release a very good free theme soon. Something that cannot be found on the market actually. Something fresh and original. So stay tuned.
