Are you looking for some high quality search engine traffic? Then take a look at the links below and submit your Blog to those sites. Five high quality sites is all you will need to start. Try to stay away from automatic submission software (so 90′s) that claim to auto submit your site to 1000′s of sites. That’s not true. By the way, Google, Bing and Yahoo manage 95% of Internet search engine traffic, so these links will have you pretty covered.

Google Search submission URL. Submit here if your site is new and/or still not listed in google. How to know if your site is listed in Google?

Just go to Google and type this in Google Search -> site:your-url.com

1) Google Search submission URL:

http://www.google.com/addurl/?continue=/addurl

2) Google Blog Search:

Make sure you submit here, because if your site is listed in Google, it doesn’t mean it is listed in the blog search. High quality and when you make a new high quality post, you can also get listed in the top 10 in Google, at the bottom, where it says: “Blog posts about…”

http://blogsearch.google.com/ping

3) Bing Search:

Bing was originally known as MSN Search. Microsoft’s official search engine that is here to stay.

http://www.bing.com/webmaster/SubmitSitePage.aspx

4) Yahoo Site Explorer:

You can submit a webpage or a Site Feed. They can ask you to verify your submission by adding a META tag to your home page, or uploading a verification file to your site. It’s worth it to submit there and take a few minutes to verify it.

https://siteexplorer.search.yahoo.com/submit

5) Yahoo RSS submission:

Another great tool from Yahoo to submit your RSS, very useful.

http://search.yahoo.com/mrss/submit

Make sure you follow me on Twitter for more great tips.

Happy WordPressing everyone!

Today, April 26th 2010 is WpThemesPlanet’s first birthday! To celebrate I’m releasing a new and original theme called Director. Check it out. This WordPress Theme is compatible with the latest WordPress Release and includes theme options, threaded comments, JQuery menu and a very Professional and unique look inspired by Hollywood and Cinema in General. However this theme can be used for any kind of site, niche or business. By the way, the Hollywood Sign has been saved today by a fund raising and announced by Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger.

           Download Theme

               Demo Theme

I designed this template in Photoshop, coded and edited it in Dreamweaver and Notepad++. Although this theme is visual attractive (which in many cases means “heavy”) it does not take a lot of resources like some other similar wordpress themes. Most of the visual attractive themes tend to be heavy for your host and slow loading for the user. Most of those themes load a lot of add-ons in their header.php, plus they have a very complex functions.php. I designed Director to be as “lite” as possible, yet visual attractive.

Many more features will be added in the next versions of Director. Some extra features like custom CSS, Analytics, Adsense and more. Custom CSS will let you modify the stylesheet and save the customization, so you don’t lose the changes when you update. Twitter, Facebook and Custom RSS can be added from the theme’s options. Enter the WordPress Dashboard, go to Appearance -> Director Options. You can also send suggestions here. This WordPress theme will be offered in Spanish (my native language) in the next few versions. Want to translate Director Theme to another language? You can contact me as well and I will add your credit (name and site) to the changelog!

Here are some stats of WpThemesPlanet first year:

20,000 downloads of Patagonia and 10,000 of Tandil

100 articles

800 approved comments

12,000 spam comments blocked by Akismet!

300 user Emails received.

450 Support emails sent.

3 Free WordPress Themes and 50 Theme Updates released.

Many theme customizations for clients of Patagonia and Tandil.

I want to thank everyone for using my themes and supporting the project. The first year is hard. Most internet projects collapse during this period. If you manage to survive the first year, you are good to go. During this period, I spent time adding content and supporting users, as well as updating and improving both themes. During the second year I want to take the whole project to the next level. Many good things will follow! Stay tuned!

Finally I want to quote a phrase from Thomas Alva Edison:

“Many of life’s failures are people who did not realize how close they were to success when they gave up.”

Never give up!

If you’ve read a lot about search engine optimization, you should know by now that link building is extremely important for your site. In fact, the link building concept is as old as SEO itself, because search engines have been using link analysis in their algorithm for a very long time.

By late 2001, Google was well on their way to claiming a dominant position in the search market, and everyone was looking for links. Because of the “link building arms race” that Google started back then, link building has changed a lot since 2001. Link building has become a discipline unto itself, and one short chapter isn’t enough. Bing has also been using a similar concept since 2009.

The first step in understanding link building is getting a sense of how the search engines see things. As explained in a previous article, all of the search engines use link analysis to help them determine page rankings and choose relevant pages.

There are only a few areas where the search engines are actively working to fight what they call “webspam” and link analysis is by far the most active subject in that area. As a result, it’s very important for you to understand their position, and what they’re looking for, if you want to create an intelligent link building strategy for your site and stay alive.

There are a number of ways to look at any given link that you find on the web. From your perspective as the webmaster trying to get ranked, it might seem that the only important questions are: What page does this link point to? What words are used in the text? How much “link juice” am I going to get from this link? Is there any risk of being penalized?

In order to understand the answers, you need to understand the questions, and that means starting with the search engines’ perspective. So, make sure to check and analyze the sites you exchange links with.

Happy New year everyone! I hope you had a great week! 2010 is here and it will be a great year for WordPress and everything involving this amazing Content Management System that is here to stay and to make the web a better place. As you may know, WordPress was first thought as a Blogging platform. However it is now applied to E-commerce sites, business portals, personal sites, video, photography and tube websites, hosting sites with wpmu, just to name a few.

Download Theme

WordPress is no longer known as “just a blogging platform”. The job of theme designers is to style WordPress for everyone and to make Internet sites look great and easy to browse. Amazing Free and Premium WordPress themes will be released in 2010. Version 1.6.6 of Patagonia includes excerpts in the category and tags pages which shows a resume of each post and a link to the full article.

If you are upgrading Patagonia and your theme was manually customized, remember to save those changes before upgrading. WordPress will probably release a feature to make theme upgrades easier in a coming future, specially for users who customize themes. Another great news is that I have partenerd with one of my colleagues to start offering free blog hosting to my theme users, but I will release this via Twitter and RSS first, so make sure to subscribe to the RSS and Twitter. Wish you a great start of 2010! Happy blogging!

Directories are a very good place to submit your blog. These sites will send you targeted traffic and give you Authority. Web directories contain a collection of sites organized into categories and sub-categories and classified by niche.

The main difference between directories and search engines is that search engines use software (spider/crawler) with an algorithm to automatically index the web pages. However in a directory, web sites are organized into categories by people. If you have ever submitted to at least one directory and have checked the traffic to your site, you would have noticed that it is negligible comparing to the traffic coming through search engines. The advantage is that directories bring targeted traffic.

Though the traffic generated through directories is very limited, this traffic is from people who, by their own choice, come to our blog by browsing through categories in the directories. These people are more likely to remain in our site for long and more likely to be our prospects. Another important benefit is that these directories are considered “expert” sites by search engines. So, submitting a site in directories increases its chance of getting good rank in search results. Isn’t it worth submitting your site in directories?

Directories can broadly be classified into “Free Directories” and “Paid Directories”. There are many free directories available on the web, such as DMOZ, World Wide Index, AbiLogic, etc. Usually the free directories take a long time to list a submitted web site. So be patient and constantly check these directories for your site. In most directories the procedure is the same. Just go to their homepage and drill down to the most specific category for your site. Then click in the “Suggest a Site” or “Add your site” links found at the bottom of the category page. I will talk about social networks soon, that’s another great place to add your blogs.

Great news today! WordPress development team just announced the immediate availability of WordPress version 2.9. This version is named “Carmen” in honor of magical jazz vocalist Carmen McRae. You can upgrade easily from your Dashboard by going to Tools -> Upgrade, or you can download the ZIP file from WordPress.org. You can also check a short video summarizing some of the cool things about the new version here.

The coolest new additions to this version are:

1.The first addition is amazing. It’s a global undo/”trash” feature, which means that if you accidentally delete one of your posts or comments you can bring them back from the grave (i.e., the Trash). This also eliminates those annoying “are you sure” messages we used to have on every delete…

2.Another great addition is the Built-in image editor that allows you to crop, edit, rotate, flip, and scale your images to show them who’s boss. This is the first wave of our many planned media-handling improvements.

3.Easier video embeds that allow you to just paste a URL on its own line and have it magically turn it into the proper embed code, with Oembed support for YouTube, Daily Motion, Blip.tv, Flickr, Hulu, Viddler, Qik, Revision3, Scribd, Google Video, Photobucket, PollDaddy, and WordPress.tv (and more to come in the following releases).

4.Batch plugin update and compatibility checking, which means you can update 10 plugins at once, versus having to do multiple clicks for each one, and we’re using the new compatibility data from the plugins directory to give you a better idea of whether your plugins are compatible with new releases of WordPress.

WordPress 2.9 provides the smoothest ride yet because of a number of great improvements under the hood and more subtle improvements you’ll really begin to appreciate once you’ve been around the block a few times.

Patagonia Theme and Tandil Theme are both fully compatible with this version. Subscribe to our RSS to be part of our free WordPress hosting with no ads and follow us on Twitter for more blogging articles.

Enjoy!

As you may know, in today’s search engines, the value of a link from a Blog depends on how much authority and trust that Blog has. Authority can also be described as Reputation and trust of a site. You should ask yourself: How reputable is your blog? For example Google measures authority with PageRank. An authoritative Blog may do very well in search results and have a very high PageRank score too, but still not be trusted because they sell text link ads to SEO people.

Links from such sites may be worth nothing to some search engines. Google publishes an approximation of their PageRank score through the Google Toolbar add-on, so you’ll see a lot of emphasis out there on forums talking about “high-PR” links and that sort of things. There are only a few good ways to get honest natural links.

For some people, it comes down to buying, bartering, or actually earning an editorial link. We know which ones are most valued by search engines and buying links is a “No No” for all search engines. So stay away from sites that sell links. It’s not impossible to get the best and honest kind of links, but you do need to think and work a little on it.

My general approach to link building is based on the concepts of authority and trust, like anyone’s would be. We all want more natural links from sites that are as authoritative and trusted as possible. But we can’t measure these things directly.

A good start to gain popularity and some inbound links to increase your Authority level, is by writing original, unique and valuable articles in your blog. Then submit each permalink to sites like Digg, StumbleUpon, Reddit, Mixx, Propeller, Delicious, MetaFilter. I will give you more tips later, but this is a very good start. Stay tuned.
